Hot Stack Studios is a Birmingham-based video production company built from the ground up by Dustin and Kait. We're growing, and we're looking for two people to grow with us. Both roles are hands-on, real, and built for people who want to actually do the work.

Contract

Production Coordinator

Hybrid / Remote-flexible 10-15 hrs/week to start $18-$30/hr based on experience

We're looking for an experienced, self-directed coordinator who can take ownership of the operational side of a growing video production company. You'll work closely with Dustin and Kait, and you don't need to be taught how to manage a project. You need to be someone who sees what needs to happen and makes it happen. You'll own the project pipeline, keep clients informed, handle invoicing, and support the business development side with proposals and decks. Hours start at 10-15 per week with real potential to increase as cash flow allows.

  • Project management in Asana, maintaining boards, tracking deadlines, and flagging priorities
  • Regular check-ins with the team to drive urgency and keep deliverables on track
  • Invoice management and follow-up via Wave Apps
  • Client communication, keeping clients informed, setting expectations, and following up
  • Producing on smaller jobs that don't require a full producer (logistics, scheduling, light vendor coordination)
  • Pitch decks, proposals, and business development support
  • Building systems and processes that make the business easier to run and scale
  • Proven experience in production coordination, project management, or operations
  • Self-directed, you take ownership and follow through without being chased
  • Strong written communication for client-facing work
  • Comfortable building systems, not just maintaining them
  • Proficient in Asana, Google Suite, and basic invoicing tools
  • Interest in business development and growth is a strong plus
  • Background in or passion for video production is helpful but not required
Part-time

Production Associate

Hybrid, Birmingham AL 10-15 hrs/week $12-$15/hr based on experience

We're looking for someone curious about how a video production company actually works. You'll get exposure across production, operations, and creative work, filling in gaps on both sides of the business. Some weeks that looks like pulling b-roll selects. Some weeks it's helping prep a pitch deck or following up on logistics for an upcoming shoot. Sometimes you'll learn directly from our team, sometimes we'll learn together out of necessity. You'll learn by doing, with direct access to the founder.

  • Support the Production Coordinator on project management, scheduling, and client comms
  • Media management: organizing footage and passing off to editors
  • Studio management: organizing and cataloging gear, prepping the studio for shoots and events
  • Work on set alongside Dustin if you're interested in on-set production
  • Pull b-roll selects and assist the editor with light creative tasks
  • Help prep pitch decks, proposals, and client-facing materials
  • Assist with shoot logistics, props, shopping, and prep lists
  • Asana board updates and general admin as needed
  • Directing and cinematography, working directly alongside Dustin on set
  • Color grading and post-production workflow
  • Storytelling, the foundation of everything we make
  • The business side of production, arguably the harder part
  • Genuinely interested in video production
  • Organized, proactive, and comfortable wearing different hats week to week
  • Video editing software knowledge is a necessity but can be taught (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, CapCut)
  • Clear communicator who follows through
  • You don't need to know everything. You need to be eager to learn and reliable.
